Goodwill Donations

As the weather continues to become colder, Kentucky Refugee Ministries is in desparate need of winter clothing for our clients. Most of our clients come to Kentucky with little more than the clothes on their back, and because they come from warm weather climates, almost no one is prepared for the cold winter weather.

Unfortunately, we don't have adequate space in our office to take clothes as donations. Because of this, KRM and Goodwill have formed a partnership to provide refugee families with the opportunity to shop at Goodwill at no cost to them, but we need your help. When donations of clothes and shoes are brought to Goodwill in Kentucky Refugee Ministries name, we get credit to take new families shopping.

At the moment, we are negative in credit. If you have items you're considering donating to Goodwill, please remember us and ask to donate them for Kentucky Refugee Ministries Agency Assistance Program. Donations

KRM needs new or gently used:

Household items (linens & bedding, kitchen accessories, lamps, cleaning suppilies, etc.)

Furniture (beds, tables, chairs, sofas, dressers, coffee tables, bed side tables, desks, etc.)

TVs and Computers

Strollers and Carseats

Vacuum Cleaners

Cars

Winter jackets and blankets (only during the winter season)

Due to our limited facilities, KRM does not accept clothing, but you can donate clothing to Goodwill in our name. This means we receive vouchers and newly arrived refugees can use the vouchers to find clothing that fits them.

Please call us if you have items to donate. We also have access to a truck that we can use to pick up furniture.

Volunteer Opportunities

English tutor for youth or adults: When refugees arrive to Lexington, many of them don't speak English fluently. Some don't speak any English. KRM needs committed volunteers to spend 1-3 hours a week practicing English with our clients.

Movers & Apartment Set-up: KRM prepares each apartment before the refugees arrive. We need help moving furniture, unpack boxes, and making each apartment feel like home for its new occupants.

Childcare Providers: As refugees attend ESL classes and go for job interviews, they often need childcare assistance. If you are willing to help out with this need, please let us know.

Drivers & Appointment Assistants: Refugees have a lot of appointments when they first arrive (medical, social service, school registration, etc.). Our staff's time is often spent driving around and waiting at offices. They often need assistance filling out forms and scheduling future appointments. If you have daytime availability, taking refugees to appointments is a huge help.

Administrative Help & Office Interns: KRM uses volunteers for data entry, helping with case notes, answering phones & greeting clients, organizing our donation room and other various administrative tasks. There are internships available through different university programs. Please let us know if you are interested.
